We have more pets than we thought!
You are currently looking at the underside of our front bay window. This little guy has been living in the insulation, and apparently has been able to get into our storage room in the basement. There are leaves, grass, and sunflower seeds where he decided to build his little nest. I think we are pretty lucky that the only thing to live there is a cute little chipmunk. It could have been snakes, or mice, or a litter of bunnies – but they nested under one of the boulders instead.
This explains why we’ve had such issues with our cat, Cleopatra, lately. She chewed through the ceiling tiles in the basement bathroom just to get into the storage room. And no wonder! All the scratching around this little guy must have made probably drove her crazy. I wonder if she was keeping this chipmunk from building a more permanent nest and we didn’t realize it before.
For now, Shane has blocked off the storage room so at least the little guy can't get in there anymore. But we will need to dig out under the bay window, replace the insulation and plywood, and make sure he can't build anymore nests. The home projects just keep coming!
